You know how some people can look a little “done”? Anaphylactic lips, strong hairline, 48-pack?
It can happen with writing, too.
Poetic conventions are great, but they should be used sparingly. A little alliteration here, maybe some simile there. Give it some purpose. It should come as naturally as leaves to a tree, or it had better not come at all (thanks, Keats!). You don’t want to create the Jocelyn Wildensteins and Heidi Montags of written word…unless, of course, it serves a purpose 😉
